History of US Immigration Laws And How We Got To Where We Are Today
(a presentation by immigration lawyer Ana Yngelmo)

Ms. Yngelmo will give a brief overview of the history of our immigration laws, and how we got to where we are today. The major differences between the immigration policies of previous administrations and the current administration, both internally and at the border, will be discussed. She will answer the most frequently asked questions about this issue: “Why don’t they get in line and do it the right way like everyone else?” and “Why didn’t they apply for lawful status after being here for so many years?”

Ana is a licensed NJ attorney who dedicates her practice exclusively to immigration law. Her interest in immigration law grew from her own family’s experience. Born in Cuba, her family immigrated to the US when she was a child. She grew up in Elizabeth, attended public schools all her life, and graduated high school at the top of her class. She obtained her undergrad degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and attended Seton Hall Law in Newark where she took advantage of every opportunity to expand her knowledge of immigration law and gain practical experience in the immigration field. She interned at the Immigration Court, worked at the Immigrant Rights Clinic, and just two years after graduating from law school, she opened up her own practice which is now located in Elizabeth.
