Friday-Night Program: On Both Sides of the Wall

May 31, 2019, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

(Combined Teen Group & Adult Education Event)
On Both Sides of the Wall: Memoirs from the Warsaw Ghetto

Vladka Meed lived in Warsaw at the time of the Nazi occupation and was able to escape the ghetto and assist the Jewish resistance from outside because of her “Aryan” looks.  This is a great book about her and her friends’ and associates’ activities inside and outside the ghetto during the Nazi occupation.  Few of her comrades survived, and she ended up marrying a fellow in the resistance after the war.  Not a difficult read, but a demonstration of what women and men (really just girls and boys) accomplished with limited resources.
Vladka Meed immigrated with her husband to New York in 1946 and was a longtime Board member of the Workmen’s Circle.  Although she died at age 90 in 2012, we are fortunate to have her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Rita Meed come speak with the Teen Group and our Community.  The event will be organized as a question-and-answer discussion.  Teens should be sure to read the book and come to the discussion with their questions as well as one or more suggestions for the Meeds about how to improve the book in its next printing: what could be better explained, what might be missing, what they didn’t understand, etc.  Suggested $10 donation for all non-members.  Refreshments will be provided.  Friends and families welcome.  Please RSVP to Rob Pestka by May 28.
