Dinosaur Fossil & Shark Tooth Hunt

Join us for this one-of-a-kind adventure!

Big Brook Preserve, where we will be searching for fossils and shark teeth, once was deep under water (hence the shark teeth)…and then it was above water, at which time it was home to DINOSAURS (hence the dinosaur fossils). This very unique place is open to the public, but the preserve asks not to dig with large shovels, so here’s a list of suggested items to bring in order to maximize your findings without ruining the brook for others:

  • water shoes
  • sifter (the ones that kids use in sandboxes is perfect; colanders will work too but not as well)
  • small sandbox-type shovels are allowed, but no regular shovels
  • water bottle (to stay hydrated)
  • lunch — which we will all enjoy while inspecting our found treasures!
  • bug spray — not sure how prevalent the bugs will be, but better safe than sorry

The Preserve is accessed from a small pull-off on the side of the road near the Four JGs Winery.

The plan is to search for fossils and shark teeth, after which we will go to the amazing Colt’s Neck playground-and-sprayground if the kids are interested. If you’d like to join us at sprayground, you might want to bring along bathing suits for the kids!

This event is open to everyone–Peretz school families, Peretz community members, as well as friends and families interested in joining us from the larger community.  Please e-mail Lily Borodkin with the number of attendees. We look forward to seeing you!
