Adult Program: The Rabbi’s Cat – An award winning animated film (French with English Subtitles), presented by Peretz member Susan London
Based on a novel by Joann Sfar, The Rabbi’s Cat, a movie set in Algeria in the 1930s, tells the story of a rabbi and his talking cat, a sharp-tongued feline philosopher brimming with scathing humor. The film, which skewers faith, tradition, and authority, is rich with the atmosphere of Mediterranean Africa.
The Rabbi’s Cat takes viewers on a cross continent adventure, from the tiled terraces, fountains, quays, and cafes of colonial Algiers to Maghrebi tent camps, dusty trading outposts, and deep blue Saharan nights in search of a lost Ethiopian city.
