Adult Program: “Biblical Laws from a Secular Jewish Social Justice Perspective”

A presentation by Peretz member Ron Herrmann

Ron will use a secular social justice perspective to examine a few original biblical laws from the Torah. To do that, he will review the original biblical terms for law, justice, judgment and the later rabbincal term: tikkun olam.

Ron states that “The laws in the Torah are very simple and the system to work with them was very simple too. However, thousands of years of rabbinical tinkering resulted in the laws being understood and applied in a way that may differ from the original intent of those laws. Hopefully, by reading those original laws again and exercising independent modern personal analysis, you may see those laws in a very different and fascinating way, applicable for today’s modern society… and social justice.”

10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep.
