Adult Program: Yiddish Children’s Stories: Reader Discretion Advised!—a program presented by Danielle Winter

Are Yiddish children’s stories political? In this lively and informative program, Danielle Winter, a former bibliography fellow at the Yiddish Book Center, will share with us a wide range of Yiddish children’s stories from the 1880s through the post-WWII period and discuss the content and meaning—literary, cultural, and political—of these stories.

Danielle, once a teacher at Peretz and now a Library/Media specialist, will talk about her work at the Center, which included turning the Noah Cotsen Library of Yiddish Children’s Literature (600 stories) into a searchable Web application, and will discuss stories both in the original Yiddish and in translation (e.g., “Mr. and Mrs. Claus” and Japanese folklore translated into Yiddish).

Please join us for this engaging presentation.

10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep.
