Adult Program:“1934: A Year in the Life of a Jewish Community in Palestine”, a presentation by Professor Aviva Halamish
The talk will portray the social and cultural history of this community by focusing on the year 1934, which best reflects its main characteristics: an immigrant society and a minority group living under foreign rule and in a state of conflict with the neighboring majority. The talk will focus on the impact of the growing numbers of immigrants with a substantial distinct new group, that of the German-speaking immigrants; the absorption process mainly from an individual point of view; and on social, professional, economic and cultural ties with Arabs.
Aviva Halamish is Professor of Jewish History at the Open University of Israel, currently a visiting scholar at the Bildner Center.
8 PM at The Reformed Church of Highland Park, 19-21 South 2nd Avenue
