Adult Program: ” Substantial and Sincerely: The Religious Freedom Clause, RIFRA and the Impact of Hobby Lobby” by Giles Davis.
While most people are quite familiar with the term “Separation of Church and State,” to truly understand this principle, we need to first understand the two Religion Clauses of the First Amendment.
This presentation by Peretz parent Giles Davis will focus on both the Religious Freedom Clause, including the Supreme Court decisions that established its real meaning, and The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RIFRA), signed into law by President Clinton. We will take an in-depth look at the controversial “Hobby Lobby” decision and the role of RIFRA in paving the way for that decision, which had a far reaching impact on a Religious Freedom and has set the stage for chaos in what laws apply to whom.
