Adult Program: Regulation and Politics–How Government Regulation Gets Written: Everything you wanted to know but didn’t think to ask.
A presentation by Stuart Shapiro, Peretz member and Director of the Public Policy Program at Rutgers University. Author of a book coming out this fall, The Politics of Regulatory Reform, Stuart will talk about how regulation by government agencies plays a role in the quality of the air we breathe, the safety of the food we eat, the risks in our financial system, and the prices we pay for everything we buy. Yet the public knows less about regulation than it knows about laws and court decisions. Stuart will talk about how regulations are written and the influence of science, economics, and, most importantly, politics.
