SUMMARY:Adult Program
DESCRIPTION:(Class 26) \nAdult Program: A Tikkun Olam Book Discussion Group: \n\n“The Life You Can Save: Acting Now to End World Poverty by Peter Singer” \n\nA presentation by Peretz members Nancy Glazer and Nancy Bernheimer \n\nPeretz parents and community members are invited to read “The Life You Can Save\,” a book by Peter Singer\, Princeton philosopher and professor of bioethics\, and join in a group discussion of the book. The idea that people should feel responsible for preventing poverty and suffering is discussed in this book but\, as Singer says\, is not in itself a controversial notion. Singer goes much farther in this book\, moving from the more familiar argument to the claim that most of us have only scratched the surface of giving and can and should find ways to give more. \n\nThis short\, readable book is available from Amazon for a very reasonable price. Whether you read all or just some of this intriguing book\, we invite you to join Nancy G. and Nancy B.\, who will lead a roundtable discussion and elicit your thoughts about the book and your ideas about “acting now to end world poverty.” \n\n10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep.
