SUMMARY:Adult Education Program: The Presidential Election
DESCRIPTION:(Adult Education Event)\nThe Critical Presidential Election of 2024 \n\n\nSpeaker Gerald Pomper will discuss the historical significance of this election\, the present state of the race\, and possible outcomes\, both in the vote and for the nation. \nGerald Pomper retired from Rutgers University in 2016\, after fifty years\, as Board of Governors Professor Political Science. A specialist in American elections and politics\, he is the author or editor of 21 books on American politics and elections.This year\, he will write the concluding chapter of a scholarly collaboration for the University of Virginia Press. \nHis most recent individual book\, published in 2010\, is The New York Times on Critical U.S. Elections. A large reference work\, the volume covers 21 defining elections in American history\, from 1854 to 2008.  Dr. Pomper’s broadest work is On Ordinary Heroes and American Democracy. The book examines eight individuals\, each representing an institution of American government and politics\, who made major contributions to the nation. Published in 2004 by Yale University Press\, the book was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. \nDr. Pomper has been a Fulbright or visiting professor at Tel-Aviv Univ.\, Nuffield College of Oxford Univ.\, Australian National Univ.\, and Belarusian State Univ.
