A Bar or Bat Mitzvah can be a very special opportunity to explore how to make our Jewishness relevant to ourselves and our children. 10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep.
27 Friday Evening Adult Community Program: Presentation by Jorge I. Klainman - In his recent book, Mr. Klainman, who lost his family in the Holocaust, vividly depicts the horror of life, and death, in a series of Nazi camps. Yet his story is also an inspiring tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit. In many ways, it epitomizes the triumph of the Jewish people who-despite the Holocaust-have prevailed. "Many people intervened, at enormous risk to themselves, so that I could write this testimony. To me, it means that, despite everything, I have to continue believing in people, and not all is lost." 8 PM at the Rutgers Labor Education Center, New Brunswick.  Free for members. For more information, see the flyer here.
29 Sunday (Class 5) Adult Community Program: "Gentleman's Agreement" - See the 1947 classic examination of anti-Semitism starring Gregory Peck which won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In addition, we will ask whether the film provides insight into how we react to other current social issues.  10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep.

The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their community. After the film we will discuss Holocaust education in the public schools and whether this would be an appropriate DVD for parents/students to recommend to their local schools. 10:30 AM at Rutgers Prep, Somerset.

(Class 8) Classroom Visitation: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Rutgers Prep.

Adult Community Program : Rutgers New Jersey Jewish Film Festival - "...More Than 1000 Words" at 7:30 PM at the Regal Theater in North Brunswick. This documentary follows award-winning photographer Ziv Koren, whose photographs of the Middle East conflict have been published around the world. Shot over a two-year period, the film follows him into the heart of riots, terror attack scenes, secret meetings, and Israel’s pullout from Gaza. This movie also delves into a married man’s struggle with the history of a fierce war in which he is involved on a daily basis, and the place he finds for himself in it. Look for the Peretz crowd in the lobby before the show. After the show, we will go out as a group to the Omega Diner to discuss the film.
